AMP Capital has made two new appointments to strengthen its alternatives team.
Dr Alistair Rew has joined the company as senior portfolio manager while Celine Nguyen has been appointed portfolio manager.
AMP Capital head of alternatives Suzanne Tavill said the new employees would enhance the team's capabilities, particularly in regards to managing hedge fund risk exposure.
"I am pleased to welcome such experienced individuals to the team, with Alistair having built and managed a highly successful global institutional hedge fund program, and Celine's international expertise," she said.
Tavill said AMP Capital was committed to investing in its alternatives team due to the defensive and diversification benefits afforded by the asset class - "something that will be increasingly critical in a yield-starved world".
Dr Rew developed XL Group PLC's internal hedge fund program. He worked for the company in New York, London and Sydney for over eight years - most recently as the company's managing director.
He has strong credentials in developing and managing institutional quality investment and risk management frameworks for large hedge fund programs, AMP Capital said.
Nguyen was based in the US at EIM Management for over six years, where she conducted due diligence on a range of hedge fund strategies including long/short, equity, convertible arbitrage, global macro and event-driven.
