The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has announced Mark Adams’s appointment to executive general manager, specialised institutions division, effective from 4 December.

Adams comes to the role with a wealth of experience in finance in both the United Kingdom and Australia. He worked at National Australia Bank for 17 years, holding senior positions across a range of product lines. He has also consulted in the technology sector.

Holding an engineering degree, Adams commenced his career working in the mining and oil industries before transitioning to the financial sector.

APRA chairman, Wayne Byres, was excited about the extensive experience that Adams will bring to the regulator.

“Mark brings to APRA valuable commercial experience across a range of business activities, and a strong commitment to serving the Australian community by ensuring a sound and well-managed financial system,” he said.

Adams’ predecessor in the role, Ben Gully, resigned from APRA to move overseas for personal reasons.
