Industry super fund HOSTPLUS has appointed industrial relations lawyer Alexandra Gai Grayson as its new independent board director, replacing Bob Hinkley.

Hinkley, who was a director since 2005, left his position on the board at the end of June this year. HOSTPLUS chair David Elmslie said he had demonstrated a "relentless and exemplary focus on ensuring our members' best interests were always paramount to each decision we considered as a board".

"With these characteristics, it was no coincidence or surprise that he fulfilled his role as a member of the HOSTPLUS Claims Review Committee with remarkable leadership and devotion. We thank Bob for his service on the board and are pleased he will continue with the fund as a member of the Claims Review Committee," Elmslie said.

Gai Grayson, who took up her position on the HOSTPLUS board this year, has over 15 years of industrial relations experience in both state and federal systems.

"Ms Grayson will bring significant legal, industrial relations and governance experience," Elmslie added.
