Despite being blighted by a flu acquired a week or so earlier at the Financial Services Council annual conference, Rollover manfully attended the Super Review Super Fund of the Year Awards in Melbourne, sponsored by that most Gallic of financial services houses, BNP Paribas Securities Services.
And the French influences seemed everywhere to be seen at Melbourne’s Langham Hotel from the Parisian scenes on assorted big video screens to a tres French accordion soundtrack not heard since Rollover stopped watching television episodes of Maigret.
But the French influences did not stop with the efforts of the BNP Paribas marketing team, mais non.
It just so happens that this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, barrister Noel Davis, accepted his award via video filmed in his chateau in the south of France.
Davis kept with the mood of the evening by ensuring that a bottle of red remained close at hand while he spoke to the camera. Truly a bon vivante.
With rainy weather abound in Sydney, Rollover was sat in front of his TV watching the smorgasbord of niche documentaries free-to-air has to offer.
As a history buff, Rollover is well-aware of the importance of the role the vanguard plays in a military force, as the leader at the front of battle.
Now that crypto investing is mainstream, with Rest Super announcing it will put a portion of its funds into it, Rollover wonders whether his grandkids will think he is hip when he shows them his crypto balance in his new digital wallet.
Rollover is almost as fascinated by superannuation fund mergers as the deputy chair of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), Helen Rowell.
